LAYER1
A metal 3D printer for parts up to one cubic metre.
- Client
- University of New Brunswick senior design project
- Year
- 2020
- My role
- Mechanical engineering design team
- Forces
- Design
The problem
Large metal parts are slow and expensive to make by machining or casting.
The limit
Wire arc additive manufacturing is fast but hot, so the frame has to stay true while the part grows.
What I did
- Mechanical design of the gantry and frame.
Details to confirm.
Specs
- Maximum build volume
- 1 m³
- Process
- Wire arc additive manufacturing
The result
A working design for a wire arc additive manufacturing machine with a one cubic metre build volume.
Bring me the thing you're trying to make.
